Visit Nara

Originally a sake brewery and residence, the Takagi Residence is a good example of a wealthy merchant’s house in the Edo period. Its lattice work is particularly fine. Although there is little furniture, you can see some original elements such as a portable brazier for making tea and a matchlock musket. There is a small charge for entry, and it is closed at odd times, when the volunteer guide takes a break.
