Visit Nara

This small, elegant kaiseki restaurant near Shinomiya Station is run by a friendly husband and wife team. Each dish is prepared carefully, using organic, locally grown ingredients. The lunch and dinner courses are very reasonably priced; you would easily pay twice as much in Kyoto or Tokyo. It is best to reserve in advance. Unfortunately, there is no English menu, and the couple speak very little English, but they do their best to accommodate overseas visitors. Ordering the set course (which includes vegetable dishes, sashimi, seafood and a choice of meat dishes) is probably the easiest strategy.
