Nara was a center of linen and mosquito net production beginning in the 1880s. While modern innovations like fly screens and air conditioning have decreased the need for natural mosquito netting, the lightweight cloth is finding new uses as attractive summer curtains and table linen. The Yoshida family still make traditional mosquito nets, along with more recent products, sold from their renovated machiya building.
